Kristin McConnell | Columbus Oh Therapist
The origin of the practice name, Cold Coffee Counseling, comes from the understanding that there’s no other time in the day that highlights the weight of motherhood more than mornings. No matter how old your children are, the caretaking tasks as well as the domestic labor in the morning, often leaves the mother with her coffee running cold. Sigh. It is the reality but I would like to help you reclaim some well deserved “me-time.” And in doing so, in taking time for yourself, you are inevitably going to feel better. Your days as a mother are LONG but the years are short. It’s time to cultivate space for yourself.
Welcome!
I'm Kristin McConnell, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor committed to offering compassionate and expert guidance to women and mothers. My transformative journey from my counseling career to motherhood ignited a profound passion to support other mothers navigating the complexities of well…motherhood!
Background
My innate desire to contribute to the helping professions led me to earn my undergraduate degree in psychology from Ohio University (Go Bobcats!). Following this, I pursued a master’s degree in counseling from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. Relocating to New York post-graduation, I gained invaluable experience providing clinical counseling services to both children and adults in diverse settings, including schools and community agencies. My expertise encompasses anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, adjustment to life transitions, grief/loss, and trauma. But I will tell you, there is a plethora of conditions and lived experiences that are not pathological in nature but overwhelming nevertheless (aka all things motherhood!) and deserve to be discussed with a therapist in a safe, nonjudgmental space. I’m talking the mental load, sensory overwhelm, mom rage and the experience of villagelessness. You don’t need to have the heavy stuff for us to work together.
Therapeutic Style
My therapeutic approach is holistic, person-centered, and strength-based, drawing from a repertoire of intervention methods, including evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy. I also incorporate psychoeducation, storytelling, humor and coaching techniques. I am currently licensed in both Pennsylvania (PC007679) and Ohio (E.2303534).
Personal Life
Having lived in various states and experienced both big city life in Washington, DC, and the charm of small-town living in Cambridge, OH, I recently returned to my roots in Columbus, Ohio. Here, I am raising my two children with my husband. When I have downtime, I am often obsessing over houses I find on Zillow or completing my own home renovation projects alongside my husband. I also love to be in nature and am often found in my garden or having picnics with the kids. But don’t get me wrong, I also spend plenty of time doom scrolling on my phone while I actively avoid the overflow of dishes in the sink! I am only human after all!
